A man in D. C. has been prescribed Viagra, a drug used by millions of men, after they were found to have overdosed on the erectile-dysfunction drug.
Dr. William Pate, a cardiologist at Columbia University’s Medical College in New York, says he was not told when he was prescribed Viagra.
The FDA has said it is “very concerned” that Viagra might be used to treat the men who overdosed, Dr. Pate said.
But Viagra does appear to be prescribed for the elderly population and has no known side effects.
“I don’t think it’s a big issue,” said Dr. Pate, who is the chief of the Division of Cardiology at Columbia University.
He said he did not know of the possible risks before he was prescribed Viagra.
“This is a rare medication that has no known serious adverse effects and I don’t think it will affect the elderly,” he said. “I’m very concerned about it.”
Viagra is a medication that comes as an oral tablet that contains the active ingredient Sildenafil. The drug was first developed as a treatment for erectile dysfunction in men, but was later found to be associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular problems.

Sibley, professor of cardiovascular medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, and his colleagues, analyzed data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey from 1999 to 2006. They found that those taking Viagra had a 69% increased risk of a stroke, a 23% increased risk of a heart attack, a 36% increased risk of a stroke and a 22% increased risk of death from any cause.
About 1 in 3 men had at least one event, and Viagra was also associated with an 18% increased risk of a heart attack, stroke and a 15% increased risk of death from any cause.
“If you’re getting a dose of Viagra, you shouldn’t take it,” said Dr. Pate, who says he was not aware of any risk to men who took Viagra.
Viagra is a drug prescribed to treat erectile dysfunction. It is available as a tablet, chewable tablet or oral suspension. It is also sold under the brand name Revatio.
“It’s a prescription medication,” he said. “It’s just a prescription drug.”
Viagra is sold in pilllets, which are meant to be taken by mouth.
But doctors often have to wait until the drug is ready to be taken by a man, rather than waiting a few hours after the pill is taken.
“When you take it by mouth, you need to wait at least six hours after taking it before you can start taking it,” Dr.
